Frequently Asked Questions
Back to Q&A IndexHow do I decide what inverter is right for my needs?
Inverters come in all shapes, sizes types and wattages. They are classified as square wave, modified sine wave or full sign wave. Generally the step and the sign wave inverters are more portable and are for smaller applications. Sine wave inverters are for bigger systems. They are less portable but are much easier on equipment.
If you want to:
Run a radio for a day at the beach, look for a 200-watt inverter.
If you want to supply a truck with refrigerator and VCR, look for a 400 – 1000-watt range.
If you are running a cabin on the weekends, look in the 1000 - 1500 watt range.
If you want a system that will run a home or office look in the 2500 - 4000-watt range.
If you are running equipment that requires 220-volts, you need two 2500 – 4000 watt inverters.
